The Asylum RP

Welcome to The Asylum!

Starton asylum is the asylum on the island of Starton (Duh). This takes place during the industrial revolution era. However there is subtle magic, no wizards, kinda like dishonored. Anyways, in this Asylum there are 4 kinds of people.

1)Crazies. These are “normal” people, just crazy or thought to be crazy and sent here. Nothing special about them really.

2)Doctors/Nurses/Overseers. These doctors oversee the people of the asylum. People of this era don't really know correct medicine. Like solitary confinement helps people. Or bleeding them of “sick blood” helps cure sickness. This also includes guards and clerks.

3)Gifted. These people have powers. SUBTLE powers. No fireballs or lightning. Things like slowly fading to be slightly transparent or manipulate flames. Most gifted will be the RPers.

4)Feral/Freaks. These people live in the bottom of the asylum, deep in the basement, lower than the elevator goes. They have huge tunnels they claim as home. Ferals are aggressive usually, attacking with super speed, strength, etc. They also have darkvision and claws and stuff like that. Ferals rarely come up to the asylum, occasionally taking a stupid guard who wandered to deep. The staff are aware of them, and warn the lower ranking people not to go past the the 4^th floor down, past where the elevator stops.

Way things work:

Every Gifted has a counter, a specific thing that deactivates their power or counters it. Guards carry sword, batons and crossbows. They might carry a poison that works against the powerful gifted. So if you have a powerful ability they will carry the counter.
Some powers are more tolerated than others. EXAMPLE: If you can make light from nowhere it doesn't bug 'em really.

This is a rough schedule for if you aren't in treatment. Free time is courtyard walking around time, you can also go to your room or the mess hall. Work is sowing, building, anything that can get Starton money really.

Name: Elliot Whitmarsh, StoneSkin
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Personality: Elliot is bored easily. He hates confinement, tries to stay out as much as possible. He is mostly sane, just wanting to leave the asylum. However Elliot really wants to know whats down below the asylum. Elliot also occasionally causes mischief, stealing papers, pens, forks. He has taken a fancy to one of the nurses, however she would probably leave if he talked to her. Elliot believes in others abilities, telling them they can do it, tries to motivate people.
Power: Can turn to stone, a statue of whatever he is doing. The guards kinda don't mind, they don't want to lug a stone statue back to his cell everyday. Elliot can wander if he doesn't leave the restricted zones.

Elliot stood in the middle of the hallway, the moonlight streaming in through the windows. It was so peaceful, the sounds of the waves crashing in the distance against the rocky cliffs. A light suddenly flickered on overhead, illuminating the world around Elliot, ruining the mood.
A guard walked stood by the switch, looking angrily at the statue. 
"Go to your room StoneSkin." He muttered walking on. It was a little game Elliot liked to play with the guards, turning off as many lights as he could.

Name: Narud "Stalk" Shadowborn
Gender: Male
Appearance: Narud is tall and skinny, with brittle black hair that is uncut so hangs over is eyes and down to his shoulders. He has deep purple eyes, and is extremely pale. His cheekbones are very pronounced, and everything about him is very bony. He has a tattoo on his right shoulder down to his elbow of a vine.
Personality: Schizophrenic <--- Two voices in his head, Jon and Joe, Joe is evil, Jon is not. Narud also has hallucinations, making him sometimes believe people are not real, but he often thinks things through before he does them. He is extremely paranoid, and has a lot of trouble reading due to the talking in his head, but he can tell a lot about people from tiny things.
Power: He can make plants grow at a faster rate. However he cannot control the rate or how it grows. Also, if he tries to do it in darkness, the plant will die.

Narud woke up from his dream. He sat up and looked at his cell. The entire floor was covered in a soft, moist layer of moss. It also crawled up the walls a little ways but Narud had stopped it after one of the lights was covered. Light is good. Footsteps echoed down the hallway and Narud crawled into the corned and tried to make himself as small as possible. Maybe they were finally coming for him. Jon told him it was all going to be fine but Joe was urging him to kill the guard.
"I don't have a weapon Joe, how would I do it?" Narud mumbled.
Joe did not respond. The voices were quiet again. The footsteps arrived at his door. The slide was pulled aside so the guard could look in.
"Time for breakfast Stalk. Up and at 'em"

Name: Verio Scevola, FadingMoon   
Sex: Male
Gender: Agender 
Appearance: Longish light blonde hair. One green and one brown eye. Dark circles always underneath the eyes. Pale skin.  
Personality: Verio is a very very paranoid person. They were declared insane after murdering their adopted father. Verio is depressed and gets panic attacks easily. During these panic attacks, they usually will have a psychotic attitude and is very hard to control until they are worn out. Verio doesn't enjoy conflict but sometimes if they are in their psychotic state, they will attack and behave violently. They hate confrontation and would much rather run than argue. Verio is not one to usually socialize but they can get along with people if they get used to them. They want to escape the mental facility because of the doctors and their horrible medicine practices.  
Power: Verio has the power to change their body into a sort of ethereal state where objects go through their skin, like its not there. Verio's powers activate any time they are feeling threatened. This power requires lots of energy from Verio so they cannot use it often. (Basically, their power is like when someone uses Ethereal Blade on you in Dota)

Verio wakes in the morning to the sound of someone opening their cell. They looked up to see a guard who had opened their cell looking at them. 
"Come on, get up." The guard ordered Verio. But Verio wasn't listening. They were looking at the guard's face. 
"Oh my god." Verio muttered. It was him. He was here. They felt their breathing increase and felt incredibly unstable. No no no he's not here he's not your fine your fine your fine. Verio's thoughts were jumbled. The guard had walked away when Verio looked up again so they began to calm down. He really wasn't here. Of course not. He was probably lying feet underground. Verio didn't want to think about it so they got up and started walking to the room they were supposed to be in.

Bio:
Name: Devo Griffin  "Crawler"
Gender:Male
Appearance: Devo is average size, has black hair and pure black eyes. His skin is pale but with a black tint. (not like an African american. I mean black like the color.) His arms are a bit longer and his face he has no check fat so his bones stick out.
Personality: Devo is skittish running away. He doesn't like direct confrontation. He tries to solve everything by hiding. He likes the shadows were no one sees him.
Power: He can use his (Bit longer) arms and legs and craws on any surface downside, regular or sideways. By using all four limbs he can get away very fast.  Also if Devo sits in shadows he will slightly fade so u can't see him unless you are trying to find him.
Other: The guards have an anti-stick spray (lol yes like for cooking) and Devo will slip on it and cannot climb on it.

Elliot woke to the sound of the buzzer, the door automatically opening. He crept out, seeing the other sleepy crazies stepping out also. Everyone walked towards the showers, ready to clean themselves. Because a clean body promoted a clean mind. At least thats what the posters said. Elliot had been at the asylum for 5 years now, having been sent here after his sisters death.
Don't think about it, don't think about it.
Doctor Hazthor said it might bring back the memories, the pain, the flashbacks.
Elliot walked down the hallway, entering the bathroom. It was a windowless tile room, a row of showerheads along one wall, sinks along the other. At the end of the room were the bathrooms, a seperate hall. There were no dividers, as the posters said, Secrecy promotes insanity. As Elliot stripped down for the shower he chuckled at the poster. Doctor Hazthor said he was doing quite well, even though Elliot had a stash of trinkets hidden around the place. As he thought Elliot washed himself off, standing in the cold water to wake himself up. A guard walked in, baton in hand.
"hey, everyone!" The guard yelled, stopping all activity in the room. "Anyone with sanity levels of 3 or higher is going to the beach today!"
Everyone cheered, washing themselves faster. Elliot allowed himself a smile. The beach wasn't that great, being stuck on an island. It was always foggy and the water was cold. But it was a chance to get out.

Devo heard the buzzer and came down from his home. He didn't live in the cell like the other crazies. No, he had found a loose panel in a dark corner and he lived in a space next to the air vent that was way warmer than the cells. Also, he didn't have to talk to anyone. The guards knew were he was but didn't care cause there were boards preventing him from going to far next to the vent. Devo walked to the showers but he didn't shower because he didn't like the thought of being in the open naked. He had only taken 7 showers in his 2 years at the asylum. Then he heard if you had a sanity of 3 or higher he could go to the beach. Devo decided to go.

Verio heard the announcement when they were in the shower. At first they're heart raced, thinking they may get a break from the monotony of the days here but of course, it was not so. Verio was just under a sanity of 3 so they couldn't go. They walked out of the shower in silence.

Narud stood under the cold stream of water. Joe was muttering something about dropping soap and Jon was trying to hush him. In the background Narud could hear something about level 3s and the beach. There was a large amount of whooping and people were washing faster. Narud calmly stepped out from the water, dried himself off and got some clothes.
"We can't make a scrap metal shiv on the beach 'cause we're not going to the beach Joe! Weren't you listening?" He chided.
"They all know us by sight, they know our level."
"Shut it Stalk!" a nearby guard yelled. They didn't like it when Narud talked to the voices. Joe was very much more vocal than Jon.
"You're just jealous 'cause you don't have them." Narud muttered as he pasted, on his way to breakfast.

Elliot walked down the stairs with the other loonies, happy to be out of that horrid building. As he walked away he looked back, seeing the outside. To the left he could make out the wing of the building where he stayed. In fact he could see his small barred window. 
Ten minutes later they arrived at the beach, everyone standing about, not quite sure what to do. A ring of guards surrounded the loonies and there was a boat out on the water in case anyone tried to swim in the frigid water. 
Elliot walked towards the water, taking off his shoes and socks before walking in. The cold water helped him concentrate, forget his troubles and the world around him. Elliot had been thinking for asking for paper and a pen, so perhaps he could draw or write, something to pass the time.

Verio walked into the dining hall. There were much less people now since they had left to go take a trip to the beach. Verio got food and sat down quickly at the end of a table. Most people at the mental facility sat alone so people were scattered about at the tables. Verio looked down and saw at the other end of the table there was someone with long black hair. They seemed to be mumbling to themself. Verio wondered what the person had since they obviously must have had something but didn't make the attempt to talk to them. They just kept eating the horrible food that really did nothing for them except give them some energy.

Devo was at the beach. Even though he didn't really like it because it was all sunny and open, he still liked to get away from the asylum every now and then. Devo sat down on the sand and looked at a guy putting his feet in the freezing water. Devo would never do that it was way to cold. After awhile he got bored so he walked to the edge of the beach and found a tree. A guard followed him the whole way but Devo didn't care. Then, he climbed up the tree and the guard said " No climbing crawler you know that." But Devo didn't listen he climbed to the top and looked out. He could just see the fence surrounding the whole asylum. 
The guard said " Come down now or we will have to come up and get you." Devo climbed down and went to the same spot as before and sat down.

"You know Jon, I don't really know what the architecture in Spain is like. We've never been there."
Narud ate at his end of the table, mostly alone. There were no other bodies anyway.
"If I had been there you would be there too."
If you asked Narud what he thought of the food he would say it was tolerable. But it was nothing compared to his grandma's tacos. He sighed and looked up at the ceiling pretending it was the sky. Then he went back to eating and his conversation with Jon. Joe was being strangely quiet right now.
Out of his peripheral vision Narud glanced a person with longish blond hair looking at him. He didn't look to be too happy. Of course not a lot of people were. Not even Jon, who was by far the most positive person Narud had ever had the pleasure of speaking to.
Narud sighed, "Jon, someday, when we get out of here. Im taking you to Scotland....No, Spain, right, right."

(Tacos come from Mexico, which is half way around the world cuz we're northish of England like place (this is fantasy world))

Elliot couldn't feel his toes. Good. He stepped out of the water, the grains of sand seeping between his toes. He waited till his feet were dry then put his shoes on, walking down the beach. To his left he saw Crawler climbing up a tree as one of the guards called for him to come down. Elliot hoped he did as the guard asked, he rather liked Crawler and  didn't want him to die. 
Lucky Crawler came down, walking towards the beach and sitting down. Elliot walked over, standing next to him.
"Want to walk?" He asked, hoping Crawler would.
"Nah."
Elliot sat down next to Crawler, leaning against the small bluff behind him. 
"So, found anything or anywhere interesting?"

"No the only reason I come here is to see the outside world." crawler says. Crawler thought that stoneskin was probably the most sane person in the asylum except for a few times when he went absolutly mad.

"Oh, well if you ever need anything, feel free to ask. For a few paperclips.(<---insane people currency)"
Suddenly the dirt behind Elliot collapsed. Elliot caught himself with his hand before he fell down on the ground. Crawler and Elliot both turned to see what had happened.
The dirt had fallen away, revealing a small cavern. It was about ten feet across and ten feet tall. In the center was a small pool of water. And by the edge of the water grew a glowing blue lilly.
"What the hell?" Elliot said, looking at the lilly. "We probably shouldn't go in there. Guards might get angry."

"im going to check it out." says crawler and climbs on the ceiling. But he knew ehat type of lily this was. Crawler went over, pulled out a vile and put the nectar from the lily inside.He knew what this was. It was a poison and could kill anyone with one taste. Crawler knew this because he used to be an alchemist but sold poison to the assasin guild so he didn't get killed by them.

( i cant edit on ipad but btw crawler has no idea why the poison lily glows normaly it doesnt)

"WE'RE GOING BACK!"
Elliot turned and walked towards the guards, getting in the line with everyone else. Behind him he saw Crawler run into the line just in time. The guards started walking them up the stone steps to the asylum, the same steps that he had walked hundreds off times. 
As they walked up the steps Elliot saw a large crate. The crate had chains wrapped around it and a single barred window was along the side. A new Gifted. Elliot wondered what they were like, if this new inmate was crazy. Hopefully they weren't. It had been a while since Elliot had had some sane to talk to. Well, he had talked with Crawler, however Elliot doubted Crawler's sanity. 
Everyone walked in to the asylum, the doors closing behind them. Elliot looked behind, seeing a small clock saying it was four thirty. Therapy soon. 

(Btw the asylum is like alcatraz in location. An island in the middle of a cold bay)

Now that crawler had the poison he decided to return to his old ways and start making potions and some poison. He went to his space in the corner of the cell block and crwled inside. Then he hid the poison.
" Therapy for all patience in cell block 4."
Cell bock four was the one with the "gifted". Crawler walked to the room were he went to on all tuesdays, wensdays, fridays and saturdays.
His therapist was sitting behing the desk.
"hello devo, how has it at the beach."
Crawlers therapist, mike, isisted on using his real name. This was the only reason crawler didnt like about mike.
The sesion went as usual and when crawler came out he felt preety much the same. Went to his "room" and sat until dinner.

Elliot heard the report and headed to his therapy room. Doctor Hazthor sat behind his desk filling some papers. As Elliot entered Dr. Hazthor looked up.
"Ah, Elliot, take a seat." He said, gesturing towards the chair that Elliot normally sat in.
Elliot did as he told, sitting down.
"So, Elliot, how has your day been?"
Elliot sat there for a moment, reflecting back on what had happened to him. 
"Well, the beach was a nice change."
"Anything else?"
"Well, I had a nice chat with Crawler."
"Devo" Dr. Hazthor said with a disapproving tone.
"Yes, sorry. Devo. Nothing really. Who is that new person?"
"It doesn't concern you. How do you feel?"
"Good. Feel like the sanest patient here."

The session went on for another half hour before the doctor let Elliot go. He slowly walked back towards the dining hall. Everyone was already there, eating their meals. He got his meal and sat down, eating it quickly. Elliot wondered about that glowing flower. Hopefully it was actually glowing, it wasn't a trick of the light. 
"You heard about The Thief?" Elliot heard to patients whispering next to him.
"No."
"Stories say he got out, managed to sneak out of here and steal a boat."
"Woah"
Elliot had heard the stories plenty of times. He doubted it was true, this place was tighter the cities bank vault. He got up and headed back towards his cell, ready for the confinement before lights out.

The entire day was rather boring compared to most for Narud. There wasn't a lot to talk about, and nobody approached him. Not like they usually did, but it would have been nice. At some point or another he had to go to his therapist, Dr. Kerrigan. He didn't like her very much.
"So Narud, why do you believe you are here?"
"...Because I was summoned?"
"No, in this facility."
Narud contemplated this. He had thought about it a few times, but never found the answer. Joe said it was because his brother Jim wanted to get rid of him, but Jon said it was because most people don't have voices in their heads, and they were jealous, which Narud thought was awfully inconsiderate of them.
"I think... It's because... Jon has homicidal thoughts. And as he doesn't have a body of his own you had to put me in too."
Dr. Kerrigan considered this. "Close enough. I think that's about as far as we're going to get today. Remember to think for yourself occasionally. Don't rely souly on Joe and Jon."
Narud thought that advise sucked.
